The Team

The Oregon State University IHSA team competes regionally against 9 other schools in our area. Excelling in both English and Western disciplines, OSU has proved to be stiff competition over the past few years.

Both teams travel all over Oregon, Washington and Vancouver B.C., Canada (an exciting new show venue this season!) showing in Hunt Seat Equitation, Hunt Seat Over Fences, Western Horsemanship and Reining. We have approximately 50 members competing in the 2009-2010 season.

OSU's team practices at the OSU Horse Center on Oregon State owned horses. Our practices are set up as a class- each rider gets one credit for practicing two times a week.

One of the most distinctive qualities of IHSA is the fact that members need no prior experience in order to compete. With classes ranging from Beginner Walk Trot all the way up to Open Equitation, Reining and Jumping, the IHSA welcomes riders of all levels. Oregon State’s team has taken two riders with very minimal experience and transformed them into National Champions in class 11!
